Hi, this is my first post. Does anyone have any suggestions or just supportive thoughts. I am a pet groomer and one of my dear clients became very sick and asked me to care for his miniature schnauzer Buster for a couple months. Well that was 8 months ago. My friend passed away. I now have this sweet little boy Buster. He is 12 years old. He will be 13 in June. I did try to rehome him since I have 2 other dogs not schnauzers but it didn't work because of their dog who also is a schnauzer. Now I feel the stress is too much to rehome. He gets along with everyone. He is an ideal dog. I do love him. I have known him since he was a puppy. Are there anything specific to schnauzers I should know. He seems happy enough but he doesn't show or I just don't read if he is happy.

Hi Kathy and welcome to the Forum
If Buster is settled in your family and you are happy to keep him, I definitely would not try to re-home him again. It is very hard for senior dogs to have to keep trying to adapt to different homes and the stress will have a bad effect on his health. If Buster does get along with your other two dogs, it would be the best thing for him to have a loving home with you for the years he has to come.
Schnauzers often do seem to have a grumpy look but this doesn’t mean they really are unhappy. If you are providing love and care and a happy home, I am sure Buster is very content to be with you. He has lost his former human companion which will have been tough for him to cope with but it sounds as though you will provide him with security and comfort and that is what he he needs.
I can’t think that at almost 13 years of age there are likely to be many ‘schnauzer specific’ concerns you need to know that you might not have already encountered if Buster has been with you for 8 months. Schnauzers especially when young can be vocal so barking can be an issue with many but at such a good age, I think Buster will just want a happy home where he is loved and can enjoy his senior years in comfort.

Awww he is so sweet, I'm sorry about the passing of your friend, but so glad Buster has found a good caring home with you.
