Coats /jumpers

Found a nice dog coat? Found a cozy pub that's Schnauzer friendly or even a Schnauzer friendly B&B. Feel free to share it here. Basically anything that we would want to buy for our Schnauzer goes here.

Coats /jumpers

Post by Baby3audrey »

Hello, anyone recommend a product that when worn on my mi I doesn't cause her hair to felt and get matted, which causes more issues than letting her ramble in the woods without a coat on :x

Hello Cassy and welcome to the Forum :)

Fur matting can be a problem with any coats or jumpers that are worn for a while. You may be best combing your little one out every time you come home from a walk to try and stop the mats forming. In very cold weather we use the Hurtta jackets which have been fine with ours but, if it is not too cold or wet dogs do not need a jacket so you may not need to put a jacket on your mini every time she goes out.

This is a link to the website for Hurtta but they are sold online through many outlets:

I find it helps to clip or cut all the hair from under the arms but as Leigh says, you need to brush down after every walk.

we also need a schnauzer.

Yep we have shaved arm pits too. Harnesses also cause matting especially if combined with the fur getting wet while wearing. It causes it to felt together, so comb through straight away.

I shave Ozzy's pits short too. No need for hair there really.

For brushing I use a dematting comb first. It gets all the floating and dead hairs out that cause matting and thins it a bit. And card card card! Luckily Ozzy loves to be carded.

For wet cold weather, I have a raincoat with sleeves and boots attached (I made it). It's one piece so easy to get on and loose enough that it doesn't put pressure at the chest/pits.

I also shave their armpits and tummy. I have found equafleece tankies the best with no matting.
