Ice popsicles for dogs

BARF refers to Biologically Appropriate Raw food or Bones and Raw Food. It is where owners have decided to feed their Schnauzer a natural diet of raw meat, bones, and organs. If you are considering this for your Schnauzer, you will find lots of handy tips here.

Ice popsicles for dogs

Post by Dinkum »

Spotted this recipe from Nutriment earlier and thought it was worth sharing. How to make a frozen popsicle for your dog.

Recipe:

You'll need:
▶️ a handful of fresh & washed spinach, chard would also do
▶️ a decent sized washed broccoli stem
▶️ a handful of fresh & washed spinach
▶️ 1 teaspoon certified virgin organic coconut oil
▶️ a small bit of goats cheese (it's a treat after all ;) )
▶️ a slice of peeled ginger
▶️ a small cup of any mince, we have used this turkey mince

Put all of this in a blender so you get a nice crunchy mix, then stuff into your stuffable toys. Kongs are perfect for this. Freeze and serve frozen when you'd like some peace and quiet or the poor dogs are suffering from the heat.

I offer my advice freely, but I am not an expert, breeder, groomer or behaviourist. It is simply my experience of raising pups in a way that seems to make sense.

For any dog that prefers fruit use one of the shop bought brands of smoothie. Mix with natural yoghurt or cream cheese. To make it more solid so it doesnt run out of kong when melting, mix in some cooked sweet potato. You could add some mince too for a meatier treat.

Just make sure the smoothie doesnt contain juice from cherries, grapes, citrus, avocado and rhubarb.

I think I will have one of the fruit ones. Why no citrus juice??

Dogs aren't supposed to have citrus it's the citric acid that's toxic to them. If they eat a small amount it will probably give them diarrhoea but large amounts not good.

Didn't know that, Otto loves oranges and any fruit really and his bottom doesn't get affected by them. He has a segment whenever I have one.
