Hi - I've just dispatched the last puppy from my one and only litter.
I signed up for the assured breeder scheme so provided advice sheets in my puppy packs. I've uploaded the document onto wordpress with a link from the puppies' blog so that others can copy and paste - one subject per page - on nutrition, worming, ticks and fleas, grooming, how much to feed, what dog food, exercise and socialisation, and finally training including separation techniques. Although the link given to this Assured Breeder's information packs is a useful example of the kind of information pack which should be provided to new Puppy Owners by responsible breeders do be aware that these packs should be tailored to the specific puppy you are purchasing from the breeder that you are obtaining your puppy from. While there is some generic information which can be obtained from a variety of sources the most significant and important part of these packs are the information relating to your new puppy in particular - what the breeder you are getting it from has done regarding worming etc; what socialisation they have done; their feeding regime; grooming advice and so on.
These packs were compiled by a particular breeder for the new owners of the puppies they bred. If you are getting a new puppy then you should be looking for something similar from the breeder you are going to get your own puppy from ( or if you are a breeder you should be looking to research how to best produce this kind of pack for the people purchasing a puppy from you).
It does worry me that too many people are sourcing their puppies from breeders who give little or no advice and support and then the new owners are having to trawl through internet sites and Forums for information they should have had or be able to get from the breeder of their puppy. Forums are useful for discussion and comparisons of experience and advice on certain topics but it is a sad reflection on the service offered by too many breeders if they are having to be used for basic information on their new puppy,
