Pett Level - The petrifried forest.
A different location for a walk this morning. Sue and I parked up at Pett Level and walked back along the beach towards Fairlight where we met for the group walk. This is a couple of miles along the beach from the Rye Harbour Nature reserve where we met on the Saturday before the walk. This is a walk that needs careful checking of the tides as it's possible to get cut off by the sea.
This is the view as we set out.

We headed down onto the sand and the fun started.

The cliffs are quite impressive from the bottom.

There's been a lot of coastal erosion in some places to the detriment of some properties. Defences have been put in place but too late for this property.

The rocks are actually the remains of a forest that stood here 6000 years ago when the sea was 30m lower.

Grand informative photos Mike .......... and exciting schnauzering. Amazing rock strata in your last photo - so very clear. My geology isn't good - what caused that sort of crumbly bit half way up?

Wow, I love these photos Mike. Having just spent the day down in Dorset swimming along spots on the Jurassic Coast, it's great to now speed back east along the south coast to your neck of the woods in these pictures.
Love the levitating dog photos, can't wait to revisit your world.

Great pics Mike. I thought in picture 1 they were WW2 tank obstacles, but I guess it's those trees you later spoke of?

They're the tops of the wooden groynes that have become buried by shingle.

Stunning photographs Mike as always, Great location too. I have just upgraded to a DSLR from a Fuji Bridge camera, and hope one day to achieve decent pictures, I am struggling with getting the settings right for good on the move pictures, but I will get there in the end

Re: Pett Level - The petrifried forest.
I know this is an old post, but it brings back fond memories for me as my children grew up running around the glen here. We used to live in Hastings and had a great time with walkie talkies and wellingtons!
One day we will return and perhaps stay at the Fairlight caravan club site. It would be great to revisit all the old haunts with a dog in tow.
My son has a pic of his brother running around here on his Flickr site

I will keep an eye out for schnauzer walks in the area.
