Obtaining a puppy

Post by SteveM »

I don't know if anybody can help me. Is there a website or websites where I can find out whether anybody has puppies for sale. I'm registered with Champdogs, but they don't seem to have many, and the ones available are usually a long way away. I'm looking for South/West Yorkshire/Derbys/Notts.

Hi Stephen, you could check out the Kennel Club website - Find A Puppy service.

The puppies will have to have been registered with the Kennel Club and, if you see that the breeder is an Assured Breeder this should guarantee that the relevant health tests have been carried out - eye screening of parents and MAC DNA test. Always check out any breeder you contact however to be sure that you feel confident they have the welfare of pups and parent dog/s as a priority.

I would say that it is better to travel a distance for a healthy well cared for puppy than just going for one near to home however.

Here is the link to the KC website for Miniature Schnauzer puppies:

https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/search ... lubs=False

If you click on the Miniature Schnauzer heading of each advert it will take you through to a more detailed description of the puppies available - parents etc. If you then click on the puppy’s registered name it should give more details of pedigree/ health tests etc. Generally also bear in mind that breeders with a council licence are likely to be breeding several times a year or may be classed as ‘commercial breeders’ rather than ‘hobby’ or breed enthusiast / show breeders who have only one or two litters at most in a year and are more likely to raise puppies in the home and breed from quality dogs.

Good luck in your search :)

Thank you for the link, and the advice. I hear what you're saying, and I've owned schnauzers for 40 years, but been fortunate to get them locally in the past, and am just trying to save on travel. Trying to be green lol.
