High protein in Urine..

Looking after the health and welfare of your Schnauzer can be a full time job. You will find information on neutering, spaying, vaccinations, vet visits, upset tummies, Schnauzer bumps and much more here. Ask a question and someone will have had a similar experience. We also appreciate updates on how your Schnauzer is recuperating. A separate section is dedicated to our older Schnauzers.

High protein in Urine..

Post by ambella »

New here. :)
My baby was diagnosed with Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy about 1-1/2 ago. Lost all her nails. Fell right off. Every single one of them. She was 4 I believe. Luckily I have insurance on her since I got her. SO we've figure that out, got on Doxycycline 2 pills, twice a day. Amongst some other supplements and a fish diet.

A year later, we started leaking, randomly, sleeping- little would just leak out. Have now been put on Proin ER. Seemed to have fixed the leaks and no accidents since then.

BUT NOW, we have a new gremlin emerging. :ymdevil:

We have high protein, bloody urine. (of course they can never seem to get a sample of the bloody urine, but I can see it come out.) Did a full blood panel, nothing abnormal. New urinalysis, which showed a 1.3 protein count which should be .5
Ultra sounds showed no masses or stones, but showed random "spots", which the vet was unsure of.

I don't know if this is a side effect of long term Doxycycline usage, or even from the Proin.
Our next step is to get a somewhat accurate blood pressure reading by putting her on Gabapentin, and making a visit to the vet.

I haven't found anything online, that links anything like this to the breed but wanted to share what we are going through.
Maybe someone else has gone through similar. :(
