This highlights just how important it is to research and check out any dog related business you may be thinking of using:

Rescue and shelter dogs should be housed and cared for to the highest standards and the trade in importing puppies/dogs from other countries seems to be a disturbing trend in the UK recently. People looking for a dog must demand the highest standards from rescues as well as breeders and not look on shelter dogs as a cut price way of getting a dog or trust that just because a company claim to be "rescuing" dogs that they are responsible and caring. There are some outstanding rescue organisations so do seek them out if you are keen to give a home to a puppy or dog in need.

This made me feel sick, what wretched lives those animals had. Thank you RSPCA and Dogs Trust and all other agencies involved.

An update on this awful case, the couple running the 'rescue' were charged and given suspended sentences and banned from keeping animals for 5 years. A lifetime ban and jail time would have been better justice for the animals who suffered at their hands.
And I agree with Leigh, the same standards should apply and be sought for rescues and breeders alike. There is a disturbing trend nowadays, a term gaining traction in th US and one I see being used more in the UK too is 'retail rescue'. It's something that will continue to grow and be a bigger and bigger problem unless and until legislators tackle all areas of the dog/puppy business.
