Dog friendly holiday - Devon/Cornwall??
Hi - am looking to find a dog friendly (2 dog) self-catering holiday home (cottage/barn) in Devon or Cornwall. I know there are lots out there, but finding it really difficult to find something with an enclosed garden and where we'd be able to leave the dogs alone (for maybe just a couple of hours), and with a pub in walking (not hiking) distance.
Can anyone recommend anywhere? Not really bothered about location other than close to a pub

Not sure if it is close to a pub but Bed and Basket seems to be brilliant & is on my list for a Cornwall visit

I stayed in a couple of dog friendly inns in Devon in September but not really what you're asking for as not self catering and can't leave your dog on its own there. Let me know if you want the details though.

We found a good Dorset cottage on this site....I know you want Devon/Cornwall but you can search for different locations.

I don't know if there are many that will like dogs being left on their own though. The one we went to this May (and are returning to next year) didn't allow the to be left alone but as everywhere was "dog friendly" this was not a problem.

Hi Louise, does it have to be Cornwall ? If North Somerset sounds good let me know, we found a lovely little cottage in Dunster last year and went for Easter weekend, then we went back for a week in May last year, my mum and dad went for a week last September for a week with Dougal their mini and again this September for a week, guess what's ?......We (me Gary and Wookie) are going a week on Saturday (14th to 18th) Dunster is lovely, and a few pubs that you can walk to and take Wilf and Olive in, you aren't allowed to leave the dogs in the cottage on their own, small fully enclosed back yard.

I can recommend Hoops Inn as a lovely old dog friendly pub/restaurant with atmosphere, in north Devon.lj_thorne wrote:We are going here for Xmas, I am soooooooooooo excited!

Re: Dog friendly holiday - Devon/Cornwall??
Hi...
We love Porthleven...and have stayed in a number of cottages with two dogs. From memory, I think Elfin cottage would fit the bill best, as it has an enclosed front garden...not huge. The Ship Inn allows dogs, as did the Atlantic (uphill)...dogs in front part. There are also a number of restaurants ..Amelies, and The Sea Drift...which allowed us in with two dogs.
I was informed by a not very impressed fellow holidaymaker that Rick Steins does not allow dogs...and if they don't we are happy not to go.
We have also been allowed to stay in a number of places with two dogs that advertise as only allowing one...so it is always worth a call if somewhere takes your fancy. As for leaving dogs alone, they nearly all don't like that...I have always wondered if they are just protecting themselves in case you break the rules, and your dog breaks or damages something but have never been brave enough to test it!!
good luck wherever you go.
Caroline

We will have our own garden with direct access to a meadow, and the dogs can go wherever. We love fowey as well, so double bonus!
Will not be for ages, but will let you know how we get on

Glad you are sorted out. For future reference we have found static caravans to be useful. We are birders & found a dog friendly site near St. Just in Cornwall which is ideal for us & the dog. Some static caravans ar really luxurious. We stay at a dog friendly one near Aviemore in the early summer.
Cheers,
Chris
