I have a 9 week old mini and I noticed that he has this layer of skin covering approx. 1/3 of his eye at the corner of his eyes. I have a Vet appointment here in 6 days, but I am really concerned about his eyes. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? or has anyone experienced this with their fur-baby? I added a pic so you can see what I'm referring to.

Re: Possible eye issues
Hi Nancy,
Dogs do have a ‘third eyelid’ or nictitating membrane which helps to protect the eye but should not be visible all the time. There is also a condition called ‘cherry eye’ which affect some dogs but it does not look quite like that from your photo.
https://vetspecialists.co.uk/fact-sheet ... rd-eyelid/
You really will need to wait for the veterinary diagnosis to be sure if this is anything to do with the ‘third eyelid’ though and get a professional assessment of Zane’s eyes.
Did he have the veterinary eye screening at 6-7 weeks before he came to live with you as this can identify any potential issue as well as ruling out signs of hereditary eye disease. All miniature schnauzers used for breeding should have had clear eye screen tests before mating and all litters of pups also screened before going to new homes.
Have you spoken to Zane’s breeder about your concerns?
Try not to worry though (easier said than done I know) until you have seen the vet as it may be easily explained / resolved when you have the diagnosis.

Re: Possible eye issues
Thank you Zeta,
I hate to say it, but I'm worried more now. LOL. I never seen this eye issue in any animal I have owned so I thought maybe it's a "Schnauzer" thing. And yes I contacted the breeder and she said she never noticed it. Which I'm starting to believe she might be a puppy mill. She insisted on meeting me at a public parking lot and she showed me Zane at 5 weeks then she took a deposit and said she will meet me back at the same place and time in 3 weeks. I did and paid her the balance and took Zane and she gave me an envelope that she said has his registration paperwork and shot records. When I got home I checked out the paperwork and the registration looked fine but the shot records was a hand written note with a photo copy of the label of the vaccination used. I called my Vet and told him and he said Zane should not have had 4 series by now anyway. At his age of 8 wks he should be getting his 1st series not his 5th. So he wants to postpone seeing Zane for another week because he does not want to over vaccinate. Also he said those vac came from tractor supply, not a vet. I was floored I could be so naïve. Not matter what the outcome or expense, the lady will never get him back. I am even for happy that I got him out of that situation. Sorry for the lengthy story.

Re: Possible eye issues
It certainly doesn’t sound as though Zane has come from a reputable breeder but he has found a caring home now and I am sure that the vet will be able to help guide you through whatever the issue with Zane’s eyes turns out to be. If you are really worried, can you make an earlier appointment without needing him to have a vaccination or have a telephone consultation with the vet to set your mind at rest that, at the least, this is not an urgent problem.
Take care and do let us know on the Forum how things go when Zane does see the vet. Thinking of you

Re: Possible eye issues
Poor Zane for his beginnings, he is still a real cutie! As Zeta says, he has a great home now and that's what counts. (Although I know nothing about the eyes), i'm sure the vet will be able to work with you.
Do let us know pls how you get on. Sending good vibes

Re: Possible eye issues
I just noticed something similar I think with Tobias. It’s noticeable when he’s falling asleep. The left lower eyelid area shows what I believe the inner eye lid. Then again i remember noticing his left eye lid area being slightly droopier from when we got him. The attached pics are him falling asleep.
