Health tests

Looking after the health and welfare of your Schnauzer can be a full time job. You will find information on neutering, spaying, vaccinations, vet visits, upset tummies, Schnauzer bumps and much more here. Ask a question and someone will have had a similar experience. We also appreciate updates on how your Schnauzer is recuperating. A separate section is dedicated to our older Schnauzers.

Health tests

Post by Lord »

My apologies if you have already discussed the matter but I didn't see anything related to it. So my questions is about health testing. If someone could explain:

RA-B1 (HIVEP3): Clear

SCD (Comma Defect): Clear

MAC: Clear

Myotonia congenita: Clear

Recent eyes test: Clear

PMDS: Clear

CMT: Carrier

Also please, how to I interpret this:

ANCESTORS LOSS (AVK)
75.81 %
COI (WRIGHT)
4.6875%

Thank you in advance

Here are some links which should explain in more detail:

I think your first one should be PRA- B1 (HIVEP3):
https://www.laboklin.co.uk/laboklin/sho ... estID=8546

SCD (Comma Defect): Clear

http://www.animalabs.com/shop/dogs/spon ... ma-defect/

MAC: Clear

Myotonia congenita: Clear

PMDS: Clear

CMT: Carrier
https://www.laboklin.co.uk/laboklin/sho ... estID=8538

Ancestors Loss:

COI (WRIGHT)
4.6875%

Hope these help but do come back if you are still unsure. These are a variety of tests which look to be showing clear on all but one which is good. The one which indicates the dog is a ‘carrier’ usually means that a problem would only arise if mated with another dog that is also a carrier for that particular gene. Nothing is certain where genes are concerned but it does increase the risk of a particular health problem in puppies bred from them if the gene occurs on both sides of the pedigree.
