Ostrich bones

Post by Dawnspell »

I was reading somewhere that ostrich bones are good for dental hygiene as they have a different texture to other bones. They are honeycombed inside which works better for cleaning the surface of the teeth.

Theyre quite pricey so was just wondering if anyone had tried them and if your dogs actually liked them. Jasper can be a bit of a fusspot he doesnt like the fallow deer antlers, yak milk chews or the antos wood root chews, but he likes a knaw on a raw knuckle bone so looking for something different

They had one in the local independent pet shop yesterday and they said they were fine for small dogs. Jasper likes it he's given it a chew in several places but this is what the inside is like and its sort of hard but crumbly if that makes sense.

He ate a fair bit and there have been no toilet side effects, having said that Jasper isnt one for tummy upsets he has a cast iron gut and hasnt ever had any reactions to change in foods. I put it away on top of a cabinet for another day and he keeps going to air sniff so theres definite long time interest which is what I was hoping for :D
